The COVID-19 outbreak shows no signs of slowing down. Millions of Americans find themselves stuck at homes. Businesses and industries have all but completely shut down. But they aren’t the only ones affected. The education system has seen a huge interruption that has never happened before. As a result, students have to attend lectures and classes online. It is quite clear that the rest of the school year will continue this way. In such a scenario, Cox’s free internet is a welcome relief for students across the country.

Cox Free Internet K-12 for Students

The COVID-19 pandemic is tough for everyone, but especially so on students. Learning and access to education is a necessity. Also, it is very important to be able to function as a productive member of society. But the COVID-19 crisis has forced students to stay at home. Many don’t even have access to high-speed internet. This is something that so many of us take for granted. Many providers are now considering this and offering some measure of relief.

One of these is the Cox internet for students. It currently offers free internet to households with kids enrolled in income-assistance programs. While the program doesn’t break any internet speed test records, it does allow equal access.

What the Provider Says

Cox internet for students offers low-cost internet access to students. Particularly those belonging to income-assisted households. The provider recognizes how critical distance learning is at a time like this. Having internet access is essential for students to learn and advance in these times. The provider had announced free internet access under the program earlier this month. It has now extended its Connect2Compete program till July 15th, 2020. It has also announced a free remote desktop and phone customer support.

“Distance learning is critical during this time and Cox wants to ensure digital equity so that all kids have the ability to learn and advance from home”. – Pat Esser, President, and CEO, Cox Communications.

What Does the Connect2Compete Program Offer?

The provider has significantly enhanced its Connect2Compete program to assist students. With more and more people depending on the internet, Cox has doubled its speeds to 50Mbps from 25Mbps. These increased speeds may continue till July 15th and the end of the school year. The offer currently includes:

  • Free internet access till July 15th for subscribers who sign up before May 15th
  • Free remote desktop and phone support for easier use of needs like online class or Meeting room Scheduler tools.
  • Internet download speeds of up to 50Mbps temporarily increased from 25Mbps.
  • Access to the provider Learns from Home toolkit for schools.

Who is Eligible for the Program?

Of course, the Connect2Compete program isn’t available to everyone. Especially not to people who can easily afford Internet 300Mbps. The program is only available to the qualifying families, which include:

  • Families with at least one K-12 student at home.
  • Those that take part in the NSLP, SNAP, TANF, or Public Housing.
  • Households that don’t have a subscription to Cox internet.

The Connect2Compete program is a great example of corporate social responsibility. It is a leading provider offering its internet services at fair rates. It is for people who need it the most – from low-income or income-assisted households.

Remember, there is a reason why teachers don’t want to give homework that needs internet use. Mainly because it would be unfair to many students who don’t have access to an internet service. Under the current circumstances, the internet is critical to distance learning. And programs like Cox Connect2Compete are exactly what students need.
